About Me

My name is Rok Sanda. I’m a writer and director from Slovenia. I studied English Literature and Creative Writing at University of East Anglia, United Kingdom.

I’ve written many plays, lots of short stories, a couple of screenplays, and an embarrassing amount of bad poetry.

I’ve achieved some awards with my work, both as a writer, and as a director, but I’m most proud of my work as a creative writing teacher.

I’ve been teaching this stuff to anyone who’d want to listen. And there’s been quite a few. If you don’t know, Slovenia isn’t a big country. It’s more like an entrée, than an entire dish, but even so I’ve been teaching this stuff for the last decade, and lots of people have gone through my courses (by last count more than 500, which is almost half of Slovenia’s population, honestly), and they keep on coming.

My point is this: I’m not saying I’m a great writer. I know my stuff, but there are many who are much better than me. But I am good at teaching the craft of writing, and giving feedback on first writing attempts. I have honed this skill like an artisan. And since writing is more craft than art, listen to your master, young apprentice!

My Achievements:

  • Special award for outstanding drama text, Linhart Awards, 2016
  • Best play, Linhart Awards, 2016
  • Best drama nomination, Slavko Grum Award, 2017
  • Best play, Linhart Awards, 2017
